KIPSafe Use & Recording Notice

Status. KIP is in build. It has not been released, and there is no app store listing yet. A pilot programme is planned. This notice records the driving-safety and recording commitments KIP is being built to meet. It binds us from the first pilot session onward, and it will be updated before anything in it changes.
KIP is a voice-first executive co-pilot for the car, built by Yield SPM (Pty) Ltd. Because it is used in a vehicle and transcribes what is said, two things must be plain before anyone uses it: how it behaves while you drive, and how it records. This notice covers both.
1. The principle
The road owns your eyes and your hands.
Driving is the task. KIP is designed around that fact, not against it. Nothing in this product makes it safe to look at a screen, handle a phone, or divide your attention while a vehicle is moving — and we will never claim otherwise.
If a session ever competes with the road, end the session. The road wins.
2. What KIP enforces by design
These are design commitments, enforced in the product's own code — not settings you must remember to switch on.
- Voice-only while the vehicle moves. In motion, KIP works by voice alone.
- Approvals wait until you are parked. Anything that needs your hands or your eyes — approvals, reading, reviewing, confirmation taps — queues until the vehicle is parked. Nothing in that queue can be actioned in motion.
- A single tap zone. While the vehicle moves, the screen reduces to one large tap area, used only to pause or end the session. There are no menus, no typing, and nothing to hunt for.
- No interaction is encouraged in motion. KIP does not prompt you to look at the screen, tap, or respond visually while the vehicle moves.
These limits reduce what the product will do in motion. They do not make interacting with any device while driving safe, and we do not claim they do. Obey the road law that applies where you drive. When in doubt, do not interact at all.
3. Recording transparency
- Every session opens with a notice. When a session starts, KIP tells you — audibly and on screen — that transcription is active. No session starts silently.
- A persistent TRANSCRIBING indicator. While a session is active, the indicator stays visible. When no session is running, it is off. A session is either visibly active or closed; there is no silent open microphone.
- Transcript-only. Raw audio is never persisted. Speech is processed to text and the audio itself is discarded. Only the transcript is kept, with a retention target of 90 days.

4. Your duty to passengers
KIP transcribes what is said in the cabin — not only your own voice.
- Tell the people in the vehicle. Before you start or continue a session with passengers present, tell them that the conversation is being transcribed.
- Some places require everyone's consent. All-party-consent jurisdictions exist: in a number of places, recording a conversation lawfully requires the consent of every person in it, not just the person operating the device, and in some countries recording others without notice is a criminal offence.
- You are responsible for local compliance. Laws differ by country and by state or province. It is your responsibility to comply with the recording and consent law that applies wherever you drive. If you cannot give notice, or a passenger objects, pause or end the session.
5. Pause and end controls
You are always able to stop KIP listening.
- Pause by voice. A voice command pauses the session.
- Pause or end by touch. The single tap zone — the one control available in motion — pauses or ends the session.
- Ending a session stops transcription. When a session ends, transcription stops and the TRANSCRIBING indicator turns off.
